I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

I love Word Search. I do Word Search everyday, and I fancy myself quite good at it. I’ve learnt which key letters to focus on and simple tricks to get the words done pretty fast.

I kind of got hooked on to Word Search because of my dad. As he grew older, we needed to find things to keep him mentally sharp. We chanced upon Word Search, and began buying books for him. He is very systematic. He does the word searches in order, never skipping to a later one. He searches for the words in order, carefully ticking off the word when completed, and finally puts a couple of lines across the edge of the page once he has completed the full search. He even gets it audited by my mom! 🙂

Naturally, Lil D and I got hooked onto it. We would often offer to help and end up slowly taking the book itself away from my dad! We must have gone thru at least a hundred such word search books. Sadly, my dad is not into word search any more. Even if he does one, he is not able to complete the full list.

Another thing I appear to be pretty good at is searching online for stuff, or googling. I’ve had several cases where I’ve found things that other people could not find.

So, it is quite funny (and sometimes quite annoying) that I cannot, for the life of me, search for physical things successfully. The tape or knife or scissors or book will be right under my nose, but I will just not see it. I have called up and disturbed DH innumerable times asking where this or that is, and his exasperated reply is always, “It’s right there!”

My keys and my mobile have a blast playing hide and seek with me practically every day. I can’t count the number of times I have called my mobile with my landline, and have found the mobile sitting smugly on a shelf or stand just a few inches from me. I honestly wish I could embed a tracker in everything; then searching and locating them would be child’s play!

Luckily for me, Lil D is excellent at locating things. She is quite the retriever, and I would be lost without her. I shudder to think what will happen when she grows up and leaves home. This tendency of mine is obviously not going to get better with age. I am just hoping that by then, everything is “google-ised” and I can virtually search for everything and locate them with success! 😀
