Repeat — Once Again

The one thing they never tell you about parenting is how much energy goes into repeating yourself like a stuck record.

Reminds me of Lewis Carroll

I told them once, I told them twice
They would not listen to advice

My theory is that as children, we have a higher threshold our parents’ voices have to cross in order to make an impression. And the only way that threshold can be breached is by sheer repetition.

Sometimes, when I’m doing something, my mom’s voice pops into my head. That’s when I realize the power of repetition. Once you internalize something, it will be in replay mode forever. That is a powerful tool to use with your children!

So now, I’ve reconciled myself to repeating things ad nauseam. Again, again — a la Teletubbies! 🙂
